5 Things I Hate About Windows Vista
Computer Industry April 16th, 2007Microsoft have recently announced its new OS, the highly we’ve-been-waiting-for Vista. While it looks splendid and very Web 2.0-ish, it is another money-sucking phenomenon from the Bill Gates empire. Through certain ‘behind the curtains’ deals with vendors and dealers Microsoft will soon make billions of bucks on selling the castrated Vista Home Basic. Below are five reasons I think Windows Vista should be hated for and I believe you’ll share ‘em!
Vista Hate Reason One - No Break-Through. While Microsoft pretends Vista is the absolutely new and next generation product, that’s bullshit. Nothing has changed on macro level. It is still Windows, and traditionally it takes loads of time to get used to all the ‘innovations’ the Gates-empire eggheads have implemented into their latest offspring.
Vista Hate Reason Two - ResourceZilla. When I first read about the true requirements for Vista working fine I could hardly keep my mouth shut. Ok-ok, those who’ll use the highly-limited Home Basic version will do with 800MHz or faster processor, more than 512MB of RAM, at least 15GB of available hard drive space, an 800 x 600 SVGA monitor, and a CD-ROM drive. But those who are lucky enough to purchase Home Premium, Business or Ultimate edition… guys, please keep your purse open, you’ll need a serious PC. The more powerful - the better.
Vista Hate Reason Three - Get Less. Most of the vendors will sell their PCs with Vista by installing the cheapest Home Basic edition. It’s understandable - they want to save money and charging another $40 for a better version will keep their customers away. People who buy PCs with the Home Basic Vista think they get the latest piece of art from Microsoft. But they get the version where hundreds of features are simply disabled. Upgrading BTW costs a lot and not recommended.
Vista Hate Reason Four - How Much?! The prices seem to be the absolute nonsence. This nonsence is tragic however, because millions of customers are bound to pay for Vista while purchasing a new PC. Many of them will be dissapointed to find out they can’t enjoy the whole potential of the new OS (not much enjoyable there, he-he) and will want to upgrade. Read above - Microsoft’s idiotic policy considering upgrades is already a legend.
Vista Hate Reason Five - It’s Microsoft. For many this one reason is enough to hate Vista. Microsoft is the undoubted leader of the software industry, but one can talk hours about all the bugs and glitches all Microsoft products have. Vista is no exception. Microsoft will publish service packs (what a great reason for advertising, PR and extra money for the upgraders), downloadable patches etc. That’s marketing and pire business.
Shitsta.

Of course…you do realize that even Ultimate will run fine with an 800MHz CPU and 512MB of RAM, right? They’re all the same OS, the higher versions just have more features installed.
You won’t get Aero Glass with the minimum specs, though. Maybe that’s what you’re thinking of.

Reason Five is complete crap: It’s Microsoft. I’ll bet that you have Microsoft Windows XP, and a PC, not a Mac. Honestly, if people are just going to bag Microsoft, then go and find something else to do.
Look at how many OS’s Apple have released. They are up to OSX 10.5 (or is it 10.6 now?). Does this hint at a reason? Maybe it is because they are so buggy that they have to keep releasing new ones just so the OS stays together.

I’ve just acquired my first computer which had Vista installed. In this case, Vista Business. I already hate it. Here’s some reasons:
1) A lot of stuff that used to be easy is now hard. One of many examples: I used to be able to quickly change a folder so it looks the way I want (in my case, grouping items in the details view) and quickly apply it to all folders. With Vista, it took me ages to find out that the folder menus are now hidden by default, so you have to go through a whole process to enable them before you can select Folder Options then View. Folder Options in the control panel is useless.
2) It takes up vast amounts of disk space to no useful effect. Aero? You can keep it.
3) User Access Control is the absolute pits. Trying to tidy up the Programs list (full of junk that Compaq had pre-installed) was agony, taking about six clicks instead of something that used to take one (right-click, select Delete).
4) Even shutting down is no longer as simple as it used to be. Click on an obscure arrow icon then select from a list? Give me a break.
5) The Help system is worse even than it was in Windows XP.
6) Vista retains the STUPID decision of Microsoft to hide file extensions by default, meaning that until you change the preference, you can’t tell what the hell kind of file something is. OK, so it’s not so hard to change, but I’m sick of having to do it on every new system.
I’ve owned a Vista machine for two days. I’m sure I’ll be adding to this list until it reaches ‘101 things I hate about Vista’. I’m already wishing I’d bought a MacBook.

Here’s #7. If your working on your computer after 3:00am and it decides to update it will reboot without prompting, close all your programs regardless of if work is saved.
Oh, and #8. Now, I can understand that if I bought an app in 1995 that it might not work but something purchased in 2005 should fully work on Vista but watch out because there’s a lot that doesn’t and you’ll have to buy the Vista upgrade.
9. Too many popup boxes. I knew heading into this thing that there were a lot but give me a setting to shut it off. Run an app that’s not MS verified and you’ll have a confirmation box each time it’s executed.
I’ve had Vista for about 2 months now and I hate this OS and can’t wait until I buy my first Mac. If this is the way of the future then no thanks. The only good thing is that I will be able to pawn onto some sucker my copy of Vista for near full price.

Hello Diary:
I finally bought my dream-computer a laptop featuring the power and design to fit to my technology love ego. So exciting!!! They pre installed vista for me. Hurray!!! I’ve never used it before. I know it will take a while to know all about this new os. But i’m willing to take the risk. I’ve heard about losing privacy and accessibility, but I’m different I know what I’m doing. Others are just not so good at this. I will soon learn everything there is to know about Vista, it can’t be that bad. It’s just people. The same people that go into the windows folder and erase files or folders with number 32 within them, since they seem to be… virus like.
As i turn it on, WOW!!! that was fast. Ok i like the look, in a way. Hey there is a dock with gadgets, cool. Not that i had never seen them before (remember object dock?). But wait, i want to change the size of the dock, damn i can’t well never mind. I’ll just move it, huh? I can’t? Ok never mind.
My start bar!!!, i’ll make new bars and “dock” them on the sides of the screen for my shortcuts. What?!!! i can’t move them from the buttom???!! Ok, never mind, let me go into the HD and see what’s new. Hmmm seems to be just like XP. Let me open some folder just to make sure. What!!!????? i don’t have authorization? But I’m the administrator. Must be this folder, only. Let me click another one. What????!!! again. This can’t be true. Let me adjust the properties, ok i could open it. Took long, but I need access to that folder. So let’s see what’s there??? more inaccessible folders!!!! ok this will take forever. Never mind, i’ll just look around, play the games, see what’s new. I will learn all about this os in no time. I’ll do updates and more. Take a whole lot of hours installing some of my coolest software. I think i won’t love vista, but it’s ok.
It’s kinda getting annoying to read: do u want to open this? yes no, are u sure? yes no, do u have the priviliges? yes no, Are u sure u want to erase this? Yes no, Really sure u want to erase this? yes no. Fine, they think i’m truly stupid, but i know some people that are, so they made this os for them. Stupid people proof. U can’t access anything or erase anything, even if u want to. But that is ok i’m a genius i will work it around!!!!
I can’t really configure things my way, but that’s ok. Let me try installing more software. Hmmm that driver is not compatible. But it says i can install it anyway. XP used to do that… and things sometimes did work. Yes, No? let’s click on yes.
.
.
Blue…..
Blue screen…. ????!!!!! ok i’m not doing that again.
I’ll just go on save mode and fix it. Great it’s XP with limitations. But it has trusty old save mode. Ok, it’s loading. Hurray!!!
.
.
Blue?
Hmmm.
Let’s just install XP, let me get my xp drivers..
hmmm, seems the manufaturer… no wait… this can’t be happening, all the gizmos and gadgets are so cool, but no xp drivers????? only vista??? this can’t be happening.
I’ve learned a lesson. No matter how experienced and good u are at “computer stuff” Vista is in fact something u should be careful with. It will make u humble. If ur too good, it will make u sad. Either way, u will loose your ego. If ur stupid, then it will make u happy to have Aero Glass. Anyway u’ll end up messing up your computer anyway, with vista or not.
Three days with vista and I’m so glad I got it!!!! Now I’ve made new friends that think just like me… those fellows at Technical support are great!!!! I had missed a lot in my life.
Before I didn’t write this much, but my frustration is being canalized as u may see. I’m not that disappointed… I’ve learned to forgive and most importantly… to forgive myself. Things are just things, what really is important is your soul. U can live without a computer.
Try Vista and open your eyes to reality!!!
