I Hate New York
Yet Uncategorized March 23rd, 2007There are so many states that are beautiful not only in their traditions, but physical surroundings. City and country settings alike each provide their own charm and distinction. Each with their own attributes and claims to fame, states sprawled across the U.S. are as unique as the names themselves. Iowa…I think of hunting upland birds, Florida, I think of well deserving retirees enjoying the sunshine, Tennessee…
I think of all the millions to be made by people we don’t even know yet in the music industry. And then there’s New York. Do you know what comes to mind? Trash, newspapers blowing at your feet as you fail miserably to walk from one block to the next without feeling as though you’re about to be mugged. All of the immigrants just hanging around with signs, “Will work for food”. The beggars on the streets with their coffee cans pretending to be blind so they can rob you as such! The saxophone players who, if they would have done “what their mommas told ‘em to, would a ended up makin’ a million”! but instead they croon their bodies to their own music whining low and long…except for the “clink” of money going in the coffee can.
You can smell the pollution, too. It’s so dirty there they carry a handkerchief with them as they walk…all the residents do. It’s to keep the clean air in and the dirty air out. Just breathing the stuff can cause indescribable illnesses and symptoms of depression! The old boats that you know are illegally bringing in people who will steal our jobs and eat our foods, cars with no regard for anyone other than their imposed destination, trucks double parked preventing anything or anyone from getting anywhere on time and planes ….well….planes.
New York was cursed after the days of the Statue of Liberty. She sat up there and looked down at all the mayhem and mishaps and decided that this was a horrible place to be put. After all, France is a much lovelier place to be, don’t you think? Anyway, the melting pot of the world! What an accurate assessment…there are more nations represented there than any other place in the world! The Mexicans, the Asians, the Italians, the Polish, the African Americans, the new Yorkers, the non-new Yorkers…and more day by day!
It’s the land of disappointment…as the song goes, “If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere…” well, how many of those failed aspiring actors and actresses end up on the dirt-filled streets as a blind beggar or jazz player? Niagra Falls could be its one redeeming quality were it not for the fact that the Canadian side is so much cleaner and prettier. The Empire State Building is so run down, it’s no longer a tourist attraction that can be climbed, imagine…not even taking care of the one thing your state has to boast about! The worst thing about New York is the traffic. Most of the people who live in this state don’t even own a car, there isn’t ROOM for one! I hate New York! I wish it would fall off the continent on one side and California could do us all a favor and fall off the other side!
Yeah, I hate New York!

what is wrong with you! New York is one of the most incredible places on earth. No one walks around with hankerchiefs over their faces! and actors and actresses, who if they don’t succeed, do NOT end up homeless because New York has more oppurtunity for success then you can imagine. I have lived here all 21 years of my life and have NEVER been mugged. Have you ever even been to New York? The empire state building is completely CLEAN and beautiful and you CAN go to the top. Everything you said was innacurate! What about Rockefeller center, park avenue, the bars in the east village, catching a show or concert any night of the week, the amazing schools, the staten island ferry, Bloomingdales, the Metropolitan museum of art, the MOMA, Whitney, Natural history museum, etc., the boardwalk along the water, chelsea piers, columbus circle…. i could go on and on and on. There are so many amazing places in New York to go. Famous restaurants, historical sites, the home to many of the greatest writers and filmmakers and artists of the 20th century! I can take a cab through central park any time of year and realize why i love new york. It is unique and beautiful. Maybe you’re just jealous you cant live here too!!!!

I fucken hate NY and every last person from the shitty shitty state. It is a trashy state and all the people there think they are the shit. Yuo guys make fun of the south and act like your real tough.. “yeah, i grew up on the streets of NY, im a bad ass” No your not! As soon as a good ol boy tells you to stop all the talking and put up or shut up, all a new yorker will do is talk more shit, or run scared. You people make me sooooo sick. Why wont you just admit it that NY is the worst state in the whole country. Your people are rude, the city stinks, and you people dont even understand the word hospitality. No one opens doors for people, no one says things like excuse me or god bless you. All im saying is send 10 Texans to NY, and 10 NY’ers to TX and see who runs home crying first. Ill put money its the Yankee that is bad ass in his head, but as for real life…..WAKE UP NY! You guys fucken SUCK.

“Do you know what comes to mind? Trash, newspapers blowing at your feet as you fail miserably to walk from one block to the next without feeling as though you’re about to be mugged.” Wow, let me guess. You went to The City once and decided you hated it. Woot for you. Did you know that, GASP, there’s actually, like, other parts of New York than The City? Have you ever been to Long Island? Nice place, mostly suburbs. Odly enough, people say ‘god bless you’ when you sneeze. Amazing. Oh, and Rudy, I hold doors open for people all the time. Hell, I even take it a step further and help people when they drop stuff, return their children when they run off and help catch their dogs before they get hit by cars, which, oddly enough, people do own. Dumb asses. “The worst thing about New York is the traffic. Most of the people who live in this state don’t even own a car, there isn’t ROOM for one!” If no one owned a car, would there be traffic? >>; I own two cars. Every one I know owns a car. Oh, and, yet again, Rudy, if you put 10 Texans in New York, odds are they’d run away because they can’t find any ‘good salsa’, while the New Yorkers would be too excited learning how to horse back ride to leave. Because we’re all good for nothing city-slickers with absolutely NO farms, cattle or ranches. Nope. Oh, damn, the farm down my street is flooding, too much ran the past week, and the horses two bocks over need some hay. I’d better get on that. Anyone else have anything to say, please feel free to IM me at Dana6133. It’s an AIM account.

Well, you pretty much suck then. I’m a native New Yorker, and I can tell you that NY is one of the most fascinating places in the world. Thats definitely some sort of malfunction on your part..

I have lived in a lot of countries and been to most major cities in the United States and this place is by far the worst. It’s not necessarily its ugliness, though extreme pollution, skyscrapers, and traffic jams are not advantages by any means. I am referring to the people. Granted there are some really nice people in my building, but the majority of people you encounter while completing daily tasks are miserable human beings at best. I have never been to a place where the people are so rude, and I believe NY’ers think of this as their defining characteristic. Since when is it ‘cool’ to treat people poorly? These people should be ashamed of themselves. I have learned through my travels and observations of human beings (I am a Master’s student in Poli Sci) that people act this way because they are unhappy. Why are they unhappy? My guess is they are overworked, overcrowded, and obsessed with material objects society says will make them happy which is obviously untrue. Unfortunately people will beg to differ and that is fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I understand what is right for one may not be right for another. I am counting the months, 11, until I am finished with my degree and can leave this place. I apologize if you took offense to my post.

Come on, THIS IS THE CENTER OF THE WORLD!!! I respect the opinions (negative or positive) particularly of people who grow up or have to visit there, and I personally understand the love/hate aspect of it; but it’s wonderul especially for young adults like me. I was born in L.A. but grew up practically my whole life outside of Houston, TX and I can honestly say that any and every major American city has rude and wicked and crazy people and those who will try to run over you. It’s more profound here in ny because of the amount of people and the close proximity. I admit that ny, (as well as la) sometimes attracts freaks and rich snobs from all over the world but you don’t have to have anything to do with them. When I see someone acting crazy I simply and gracefully walk by like they weren’t even there. The city is safer now than the very first time I went in 2000 and the red light district has been curved in Times Square I’ve noticed. I want to live in manhattan the rest of my life, well as long as I’m able to defend myself from muggers. Again, I respect everone’s opinion because it’s not a place for everyone but then again it’s a place FOR everyone.

It’s understandable to hate the city of NY for the sheer volume of unpleasant, nasty people. It still is the big ugly. But, nearly every city over, say, 250,000 people is like that in the Northeast. It’s cities are the most unfavorable place in the U.S. for worthwhile people. In fact, most American cities, period, contain some of the worst, ugliest in demeanor people in the world. The excuse of being unhappy can only go so far when it’s obvious they like being hostile and obnoxious.

as the comments seem to agree with you perception of New York, NY.
I say, they are so paranoid they make you go through security TWICE just to get there internationally! But as you know, the hyjackers of 9/11 came from flights from other airports… Boston, etc. So. Here is my solution.
I hate New York as much as I hate Los Angeles.
so… solutions?
Give it back to the Dutch. But they would probably just infect it with small pox… again.
OR…
all Nations… including and not limited to North Korean, Iran, Iraq… oh wait, they never had any ballistic missiles… but still nice to include them, can use New York City as a calibration test range.
in the even of a total commitment thermo nuclear war, NYC and Los Angeles can be useds as a calibration point. All nations will simultaneously launch as many as their ICBMS as possible. And the Soviets… er… Russians can use the SS17 “Sickle” 40 Megatoner…
Or record a black man being beat by a white,or appear to be white, cops.
Total break down will be about 4 days… the looters and rioters will take care of it for us! Just hold back the police, Fire, Ambulance, and National Guard. In about 7 days… bingo! You can plant trees, and waaaaaLA! You have yourself a National Park! Maybe clear up the constant pollution!
Objections to my plan? Remember they are New Yorkers… they are subhuman.

so… yeah.

I too, hate New York. At the risk of sounding very sixty-ish, I always get bad vibes from this awful place. Its’ defenders also talk about the fact that it’s the center of the arts, finance, etc., which is all well and good, but what does that mean to the average working class or lower income person trying to make a living in this city of exorbitant prices? There’s even tax on clothing! Plus, I am a person of color and I detect alot of racial animosity there, but no one wants to talk about it. After all, this is “liberal” New York. Yeah, right. We were visiting there and my sister asked a cop for some directions and he said “go back to your corner.” Also we were in Long Island once and had to use the bathroom facilities at a gas station and the gas station owner said it was broken. Then as we drove off we saw some white people walking into the bathroom. And this was a few years ago!
Yes, I HATE NEW YORK!

“Objections to my plan? Remember they are New Yorkers… they are subhuman.”
You don’t seem to be such a nice person yourself, buddy. Yeah, there are some bastards here, but there are bastards EVERYWHERE you go–there are more people here, so there are more bastards–though I get the feeling that you’d be something like an equivilant of ten pissed off cidiots (yes, Cidiots). There are places I don’t like, but I don’t hope people would use them as nuke testing sites. Wow, there are so many things I want to say to your post, but I’d rather just have you IM me–it’s save time.
MST actually made a valid point, aside from the fact that there are racists everywhere–I’m sorry that you had to meet them, but it does happen everywhere (there was a story back from 2002 or so where a fast food place made a black man go to a colored pick up window down in Mississippi). Compared to other places, NYC isn’t too bad of a place to be in terms of racial diversity–the bad part of that is the fact that you have to have money to live there and the people who live in the bad areas are usually the same people who have family born there for generations, which makes a really bad circle of poverty in racial minority neighborhoods. If the state were to fix that problem by lowering taxes, etc, things would be better.
NY has very high taxes, and even the Island has clothing taxes, but when you think about it, they’re not as high as California (probably)and other European countries. I think NY-ers just get a lot of shit from everyone for a lot of reasons that seem to be unfounded. I was holding a conversation with this boy on a ride down in Florida when he goes, ‘where’s your accent from?’ when I answered NY he stopped talking to me and got out of line. A NY-er would never be so rude as to do that to a someone from Mississippi or Alabama or something, so why do people have to be rude to us? Don’t let the actions of a couple influence your ideas on the state as a whole.
