I Hate James Bond!
Public Personalities October 20th, 2006I hate James Bond. Not a particular actor, but the character itself. He is what I call ‘over-mannish’. And do you know why the movie series with James Bond is so popular? Because men watch it. James Bond is maybe the most concentrated and insane mix of all stereotypes about what a man should be like.
Let’s just have a look at some very, very explicit examples. Aston Martin. A nice car, a great car I would even say. But why the sales of this outstanding vehicle went booming only after Aston Martin starred as James Bond’s favourite car? Maybe, Aston Martins were not so powerful or their steering was a pitfall before the movie? No. The car is the same. But now it’s the car of James Bond, not just Aston Martin.
James Bond is what an average man is dreaming of being. Strong, honest, an outstanding womanizer. He has lots of money, he is smart, he knows how to come on the top in any situation. To some extend, James Bond is a superman as much, as an ordinary man can be. Do you still wonder why he is so popular? Men are strong, but they are very tender and easily offended when it’s all about their features of the strong sex. They all want to drive posh cars, sleep with posh girls, wear unbelievably expensive watches and have money enough to live the way they want.
And that is why I hate James Bond. He makes men forget that they should care about what they already have - their family, their wives (maybe not so sexy as James Bond’s whores), their children. They start integrating this supermannish image into their life, ruining everything they’ve achieved before.

Lighten up. He’s just a character in a movie. It’s escapism. What a bunch of whiners.
