DHL I hate!
Service January 7th, 2006Recently we’ve been posting a rant from someone who hated UPS and their poor service he experienced with them. To declare we are just, we are proud to present this “I hate DHL” copy. Have fun reading!
I ordered some ram for my upcoming laptop purchase from Outpost.com. Apparently, Outpost uses DHL/Airborne Express to ship their orders out. I’ve honestly never dealt with them before, but why should I be worried? No reason… Until now.
Friday after work, I went directly to Mystic for a rehearsal dinner and didn’t come back until mid-Sunday. Monday, I checked out the DHL tracking info to see where the package was at. Sure enough it says they tried to deliver it on Friday and were attempting to deliver it again on Monday. I didn’t notice any tag left like FedEx does (so you can just sign it and they’ll leave your package) but they may not write them. I told Katherine that they’d probably be coming by and be on the lookout, no problems yet.
Just after 3, Katherine calls my cell phone saying that the tracking info had been updated and that the DHL drivers attempted to deliver yet again, but we weren’t there. So she called them up telling whoever she talked to that they never came by and was basically talked to like she was an idiot.
I immediately thought that they were probably going to the incorrect address, seeing that there is a second 17 on the circle drive I live on (they had a different street name on the other 1/2 of the drive). An honest mistake if they weren’t used to delivering here. So I called them up and explained the situation, however I was greeted with, I’m guessing, the same beligerant DHL woman Katherine talked to, who also talked to me like I didn’t know what the hell I was saying either.
She immediately said quickly, with attitude and a condescending tone, “Well, it says here that the driver tried to deliver on Friday and today.” I had to tell her about 4 times that there are two number 17s before she actually understood. I had also not received the note, to which she said “It takes them a while to write the notes, so he probably just didn’t.” Finally, we got to a point where I had to give her directions to my house and landmarks.
The ram is currently on the truck again, so we’ll see how today goes…
UPDATE:
Katherine just emailed me. She checked the DHL tracking information and yet again, these idiots wrote down that they attempted delivery at 10:59 am. I called them up and the woman I talked to this time was much more cordial than the previous one. She informed me that she would contact the driver and give them my home phone number that they could call in case they needed to get directed moreso. I’m not dealing with DHL ever again.

i am a former dhl delivery driver, and a darn good one i would like to think. i loved the town i delivered to and the route i had was a very tough one. i wanted to move back to my home state and was asking my dhl supervisors and customer service represntatives to keep an eye open for potential jobs i could move into at my new location seeing as how i could not transfer because most dhl hubs are contracted out. nothing came open. so i moved back to my home state and composed a resume and submitted it to the dhl office in my new area. thinking that i have a good chance because of years of experience in airborne and dhl would help me get a driving job again, i was opptumistic. well i got a call for an interview. and they offered me a some bull crap deal that would start me out at 7.50 an hour. seeing as how it was difficult enough for me to find a job in the first place because of the pyles of misinformation my family gave me. the job i had at the time was a stepping stone till i found something better was paying me only $9.00 per hour which was $1.50 more than dhl would pay me and a hell of a lot closer than the nearest hub. i would like to think that if i was good enough driver that an executive from the home office of airborne express flew out to my location and was eager to meet me and had heard a lot of praise and positive anticipation of my return to that route from customers all over town i might add, that i would somewhat be kinda regaurded as an asset. at the time of my interview i was in the process of becoming a fed ex gound/home delivery driver. they did not have high expectations of me because the route i was going to take on was a real nasty one 2,500 streets in a single town and 90% of which were dead ends. you had to in most cases go down 5 streets to get to your targeted street just to have to turn around and go back the way you came. i did it with 2 days training and the managers all bragged about me and used me as an example. you do not get too many people calling in to give you praise but i got 2 calls in a 90 day period and they were floored. so, i think i have some bragging rights on how good of a driver i am. if dhl doesn’t care, this statement should be a warning to any potential candidates for a driver for DHL.
